Edith Hitzel died November 21 at the Peace River Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. She was 92. She was born September 21, 1914 in Phillipsburg, NJ the daughter of the late Quintino and Clorinda Lasco Mastrogiovanni.
She was married to Joseph M. Hitzel, Jr. in 1935 and lived in Atlantic City, New Jersey until 1942 when Mr. Hitzel entered the U.S. Army. After spending the war years in Arlington, Virginia the family returned to the Atlantic City area where she lived with her family for fifty years in Margate and Longport. She was active in the Miss America Pageant for many years as a chaperone and in the Longport Mother's Club. She lived in Glen Gardner, New Jersey for six years prior to moving to Florida.
She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Joseph M. Hitzel, Jr. in December 1995 and two of her sisters Evelyn Crezzo and Fina Neuman.
Edith will be lovingly remembered by her family, her sons and their wives, Joseph and Georgeann Hitzel, III of Glen Gardner, New Jersey, John and Alberta Hitzel of Punta Gorga, Florida and Edward and Sue Hitzel of Mays Landing, New Jersey and her three surviving sisters, Lena Florkevicz of Garfield, New Jersey, Mary Thomas of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Janet Wieder of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, 13 grandchildren and 22 great grand children.
Services are under the direction of Connell Funeral Home, Inc. Bethlehem, PA and the Den Roberson Funeral Home in Port Charlotte, Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anne's Catholic
Church, Bethlehem PA on Monday November 27, 2006.
Burial was held at Holy Saviour Cemetery, in Bethlehem, PA
Memorial contribution in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, PO Box 405, Hampton, New Jersey.
