Edward D. "Rod" McLaughlin, 96, of Bethlehem, died on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Manor Care. He was born in Lehighton, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Geiger) McLaughlin and attended school in Mauch Chunk. He was the loving husband of 61 years to Margaret M. (Kochmar) McLaughlin who died on May 15, 2008.
Rod was worked as a railroader his entire working life. He originally was employed in Jersey City as a Yard Brakeman on November 9, 1940. In January of 1967 he took office as General Chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and later accepted an appointment to Senior Labor Relation Officer in Washington, DC. He worked for Amtrak until his retirement in 1975 but remained a resident of Bethlehem since 1953. He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church. Rod was an avid Notre Dame Football Fan.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Kathryn McLaughlin of Bethlehem; and Diane Sigers of Cache, OK; his sister, Edith Lukasevich; three grandsons, John, Matthew and David, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis and Lawrence; and his sisters, Marie and Anna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd., Bethlehem. Visitation will be held at The Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Memorial Contributions may be made Catholic Charities 530 Union Blvd. Allentown PA 18109.
