Edward H. Oechsle

Edward H. Oechsle, Sr., 96 of Bethlehem passed away on Friday February 15, 2013 at Manor Care Health Services in Bethlehem. He was born on February 26, 1916 in Bethlehem, son of the late Robert and Mary (Culligan) Oechsle. He was the husband of Doris (Zingler) Oechsle. They were married for 56 years in May of 2012.

Edward was a supervisor in production and shipping for Bethlehem Steel for 42 years retiring in 1979. He was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Bethlehem. He graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School and also coached basketball in the early 1940's. He was a PIAA basketball official for many years. Edward was one of the creators of the South Side Little League and took a team to the Little League World Series. He was active in the Boys/Girls Club in Bethlehem and was on the board of control of South Bethlehem Fireman's Relief Association for many years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Doris, sons, Thomas E. Oechsle and wife Pam of Coopersburg, and Edward H. Oechsle, Jr. and wife Susan of Center Valley, grandchildren, Morgan, Lin Li, and Jason, and great granddaughter, Katelyn.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, and Leo, and sisters, Isabele Fagan, and Marie Chassar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Monday February 18, 2013 at Notre Dame Catholic Church 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018. A calling hour will be held from 10-11am at the church. Burial will be held at Bethlehem Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church or to the Sister's of St. Joseph 1823 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018.
