Edward J. Mitros

Edward J. Mitros, 89, passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital on July 30, 2010.

Mr. Mitros was born on July 10, 1921, in Glen Lyon, PA, son of the late Frank and Bertha Komorowski Mitros. He was the beloved husband of Emma Jean Urbanski

Mitros.

Edward graduated from Newport High School in Wanamie, PA. He lived in New York City 1941-1943 where he worked a die maker.

Edward served in U.S. Army January 8, 1943 thru March 9, 1946 as private first class in the 383rd Military Police Escort Guard Company, which included service aboard the troop transport SS Mariposa, escorting German and Italian POWs to the US from North Africa.

Returning to Pennsylvania following the war he received a B.S. degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1950 and his M.S. from Bucknell University in 1951.

After marrying in 1951 he moved to Maryland, then to New Jersey, eventually settling

in Parsippany-Troy Hills where he raised his family while teaching earth science at Mount Pleasant Junior High School, Livingston, where he chaired the science department.

He retired in 1977 and moved with his family to Hamden, CT. Later he lived in Allentown, PA and Bethlehem, PA. He was a communicant at St. Anne's Church Bethlehem.

He leaves one son, David Mitros of Bethlehem, and two daughters, Daria and her husband William Sockey of Venus, PA and Christina and her husband Timothy Watkins of Oxford, CT, as well as 16 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Roman and Joseph of Glen Lyon, PA and Eugene of Danville, PA, sisters Anna Tafflin of Belleview, FL, Cecelia Barski of Glen Lyon, and Victoria Luba of Rahway, NJ.

He will be remembered as a fervent Catholic, a loving husband and father, and someone who appreciated the simple joys of life and the beauty of God's creation.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM with Rosary at 8:00 PM and Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18018.
