Eleanor F. Fisher

Eleanor F. Fisher, 99, of Bethlehem, died on July 21, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital-Fountain Hill. She was born June 6, 1924, in Bethlehem, PA, the second of five children of the late Frank and Nellie (Carrington) Peffer. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Dr. Joseph W. Fisher, Jr.

Eleanor will be remembered for her strong will, social nature, and spirited demeanor. She enjoyed shopping, visiting the casino, sewing, knitting, and playing golf and bridge with friends. Eleanor had a great appreciation for dining out and she and Joseph went out for dinner several nights a week.

She was a graduate of Bethlehem High School (Liberty) and a member of the high school reunion committee. Eleanor earned her nursing degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Eleanor served our country at the tail end of World War II in the Cadet Nurse Corps. She was stationed at Fort Lee where she met and fell in love with her husband, Joseph. The two moved to Chicago and Eleanor dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker upon the birth of their first child, Kimberly.

Eleanor will be dearly missed by her daughters, Kimberly Carlson, and Jeri Fisher; grandchildren, Scott Carlson, Daniel Carlson, and Jessica Fisher, great grandchildren, Aidan, Xander, Hadley, Estrella, Holden, and Sloane, as well as her extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; stepmother, Helen Peffer; aunt, Mary Peffer, who raised Eleanor, granddaughter, Courtney Carlson, and siblings, Mary Doris Bonamonte, John Peffer, Elizabeth Beam, and James Peffer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. on the birthday of Eleanor’s husband, October 13, 2023, at Bethlehem Memorial Park. Guests wishing to attend are invited to meet at the Madison Ave. entrance to the cemetery.
