Eleanor M. Bartera

Eleanor “Ellie” M. Bartera, 86, of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. She was born in Bethlehem; the daughter of the late Mariano and Adelina (Prosperi) Marcantognini. She was the devoted wife of the late Italo J. Bartera.

Eleanor was a graduate of Bethlehem High School and attended business school where she developed the skills for her career as a bookkeeper. She worked for Bethlehem Corporation, Quartet, and eventually retired from Fuller Sportswear Company. Eleanor was a devoted parishioner of St. Annes Catholic Church, Bethlehem, where she was a former CCD teacher. She was very generous, enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, and was especially proud of being a grandmother.

She was extremely family oriented and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Anita, wife of Curt Firestine of Downingtown; sons, Joseph Bartera and his wife, Cynthia of Macungie; David Bartera and his wife, Lisa of Emmaus; and her grandchildren, Eric and Julia Firestine, Emily Bartera, and Parker Bartera as well as a granddaughter that will be born soon and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her sisters, Eva Santanasto and Irene Jordan.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.
