Elizabeth Byrd

Elizabeth M. Byrd, 96, of Philadelphia, died on December 21, 2024. She was born in Bethlehem, PA on May 5, 1928, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Starosky) Butishon. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Zola L. Byrd, Jr.

Betty will be dearly missed by her son, Joseph S. Byrd, and two granddaughters and great granddaughter.

After graduating from business school, Betty worked her lifelong position of clerk, typist, and office administrative assistant, including over 10 years for the City of Philadelphia, retiring in December of 1988.

She enjoyed mini vacations to Atlantic City and Wildwood, NJ all throughout her adult working years. When not traveling, Betty enjoyed the peace and quiet of her home, with shopping being an active pastime.

Betty was a wonderful cook, and always enjoyed the task of putting a delicious meal together on Sunday for her husband & son. To her, fresh fruit & vegetables were essential, and she continued to enjoy summer salads and fruit all year long - these were just slightly less fun than her favorite treat - ice cream. She always believed that fresh produce and walking were the key elements to healthy living...having reached 96, she might be right.

Service arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home and will be private.

In recognition of her deep devotion to St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the family asks that you offer prayers or Masses in remembrance of Betty Mae.
