Elizabeth Roseman

November 14, 1937 — January 1, 2009

Elizabeth "Ellie" Roseman, 72, of Bethlehem, Pa. died Thursday January 1, 2009 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. She was born on November 14, 1937 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico daughter of the late Jose Ubinas and Ana Maria Ramos. She was the wife of Joseph Roseman. They celebrated 47 years of marriage this past November.

Elizabeth and her family moved to the Lehigh Valley in 1976. Her children, Jacob and Ida graduated from Liberty High School, and Gustavo graduated from Stamford High School. They became professionals in their respective fields after graduating from college. Meanwhile, her husband Joe pursued his career in sales.

Ellie's life long love for youth and the elderly continued as well. In 1989 , she became the Senior Program Coordinator of the Basilio Huertas Hispanic Senior Citizens Center of the "Spanish Council", in South Bethlehem. Prior to that, Ellie had worked at Broughal Middle School, at the Senior Program at Casa Guadalupe in Allentown and volunteered at Holy Infancy Church.

Ellie directed the Senior Center for 20 years. In doing so, she became the second longest serving employee in the organization's 40 year history. Ellie became a living personification of the Senior Center and the Council. She served with honor, love, dignity and grace. Under her administration of the Senior Center, she received visitors like former Surgeon General of the United Stated Richard Carmona, Congressman Charles Dent, Under Secretary of Health of the United States and most recently, New Mexico's Governor Bill Richardson.

In addition, Ellie received an award from the Pennsylvania Department of Area on Aging and was nominated by Governor Rendell to serve on the Pennsylvania's Statewide Senior Citizens Council. Although Ellie would have become the first Hispanic to receive that distinction, she graciously turned it down due to her husband's health challenges at that time.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Joseph, sons, Jacob Roseman and wife Molly of Wausau, Wisconsin, Gustavo Roseman and wife Deborah of Gilbertsville, Pa., daughter, Ida Marie and fianc Enrico Gargano of Brooklyn, New York, brothers, Harry Ubinas and Carlos Ubinas both of Puerto Rico, and Jose Ubinas of Florida, sisters Marie T.
