Emmeline L. Dimmick

Emmeline Ungurian Lewis Dimmick, 95, of Bethlehem passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 while at home in her residence at Moravian Village. Born on January 16, 1928 in Hellertown and raised in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Buda) and Emil M. Ungurian. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. W. Deming Lewis, former President of Lehigh University until 1989, and the late Leonard R. Dimmick until 2011.

Emmeline, or as her friends called her “Em”, was a proud graduate of Moravian College for Women, class of 1948, and was a loyal supporter of the college her entire life. She went on to teach English at Liberty High School until 1966. Later she sat on the board, or was associated with, Sayre Child Center, United Way, Kemerer Museum, Moravian College Alumni Association, American Association of University Women, and Friends of the Lehigh University Libraries. She was generous and gregarious and delighted in hosting, entertaining, and bringing people together.

Emmeline enjoyed spending time in Florida, traveling the world, and a casual game of golf at Saucon Valley Country Club. Later in life, Emmeline was one of the original residents at Moravian Village where she was happy and active in the community. She was a dedicated participant in at least two book clubs, where she would read aloud for others, including visually impaired residents. She had a love of reading and sharing that passion with others.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Thomas Hoffman, sister, Dr. Gisela "Giz” Smolinsky, son in law S. James Corsa, grandsons, Andrew, and Michael Corsa, and step-daughters Linda Lewis Maricondia and Caroline Lewis Mehlenbeck and their families. Emmeline was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Corsa and brother-in-law, Mervin Smolinsky.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 12 p.m. Burial will be held privately.
