Eugene William “Jack” Kratzer, Sr. of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 21, 1934 in Allentown. Jack was the son of the late Harvey and Grace (Werner) Kratzer. He was married to Frances (August) Kratzer for 58 years.

Jack worked for the Bethlehem Area School District for 37 years and was an active member of various Bethlehem social clubs. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Hellertown American Legion. One of his fondest memories was coaching his son in Little League.

Jack is survived by his wife; three children, Karen Sweeney and her husband, Tom; Gene Kratzer and his wife, Stephanie; and Denise McKeown and her husband, Mike; grandchildren, Kelly, Rachel, and Emily Sweeney, Ryan and Avalon Kratzer, and Brennan McKeown; brothers, George Kratzer; Jim Kratzer; and Richard Kratzer; sisters, Dolores Schwartz, Betty Kushner, Nancy Geiger, and Bonnie Kratzer. Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Kratzer.

Calling hours will be held at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9-10 a.m. A ceremony to celebrate Jacks life will be held Wednesday following the visitation in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lukes Hospice, 240 Union Station Plaza, First Floor, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
