Felicia Straubinger

Felicia ?Chana? Straubinger, 82 of Bethlehem passed away Tuesday Dec. 11, 2007 at Westminster Village in care of Westminster and St. Luke?s Hospice at St. Luke?s after being in declining health.

Chana was born on December 1, 1925 in Bethlehem, Pa to Ramiro and Camila Mata Alonso. She attended Liberty High School and in 1948 graduated from Bethlehem Business College.

After college, Chana worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a translator in the mining department. There she met the love of her life, John Buster Straubinger and they married on September 16, 1950. Chana quit her job at the steel company in 1953 to begin a family.

A devoted wife and loving mother she enjoyed cooking and singing. The neighborhood children would play in her yard just to be able to hear her sing. In the sixties she worked with her daughter?s brownie and Girl Scout troop and in the early seventies she did the same with her son?s Cub Scout troop. In the eighties she worked as a volunteer for the Ladies Aide Society of St. Luke?s Hospital.

Chana is survived by her husband John and their children; Debra wife of Juan Sanchez of Pittsburg, CA and John husband of Kristen Straubinger and their son Brett of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by her sisters and brother, Mary Guerra and Peter Alonso of Bethlehem and Angela Dios of Bricktown, NJ. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jean Straubinger of Jim Thorpe, Pa.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday December 14th in the First Presbyterian Church Chapel 2344 Center St. Bethlehem, Pa.
