Ferdinand Ackerman

March 27, 1925 — July 31, 2014

Ferdinand Ackerman, 89, of Bethlehem, died on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Blough Health Care Center. He was born and raised at 1432 Phillip St. in South Side Bethlehem, the son of the late Alexander and Magdelena (Banhuber) Ackerman. He was the loving husband to Dorothea E. (Reese) Ackerman who died in 2001.

Ferdinand worked in the Blast Furnace at Bethlehem Steel for 40 years. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corp after being drafted in June of 1943 and was deployed to 402 Air Depot in England. He was a member of the VFW in Northampton.

He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and uncle who lived life to its fullest.

He is survived by his sons, Matthew Ackerman, James Ackerman and his wife, Valerie, and Frederick Ackerman and his wife, Irena; his two daughters, Patricia Ackerman and Sharon Johnson wife of the late Russell Johnson; his grandchildren, Geza Burkit, Jr., Robert Burkit and wife, Malinda, Kathleen Burkit, James and Shawn Ackerman; and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Julie Burkit. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph, Theresa, Anna, Michael, Frank, Louise, Nicholas and Alex.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 417 Carlton Ave. Bethlehem. A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem.

Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial park, Allentown.
