Fernando Joao

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fernando Joao, age 79, of Nazareth, PA. He passed away in his home on December 16, 2024. Born in Cerejeiras Penela, Portugal on November 5, 1945, Fernando was the beloved husband of Maria Joao for over 55 years, and a loving father to Isabel and son-in-law Carlos. He was also a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Antonio, and Adriana.

Fernando immigrated from Portugal to Bethlehem in April 1970. He co-founded the construction company Joao & Bradley alongside the late Ed Bradley, building a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. Through his business and in his personal life, Fernando was known for his integrity, his strength, and his deep love for his family.

A man of strong faith, Fernando took great pride in his heritage and his love for Sporting CP and Portuguese soccer. He was happiest spending time with his family and friends.

Fernando is survived by his wife, Maria; daughter, Isabel, and son-in-law, Carlos; grandchildren, Antonio, and Adriana; his niece and nephews, Lena, Victor, Carlos, and Fernando; his grandnieces, Samantha, and Celeste; as well as his many friends and extended family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home. A viewing will be held at Holy Infancy Church, 312 E. Fourth St. Bethlehem, PA 18015 on December 21, 2024, from 8:15 a.m.-10:15 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial services will follow Mass at Holy Savior Cemetery, 2575 Linden St. Bethlehem, PA.
