Francis P. Holzer

October 10, 1929 — April 22, 2018

Francis (Jeep) P. Holzer, 88, of Bethlehem, went home to the Lord on April 22, 2018. Born on October 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa Holzer. While a student at Bethlehem Technical High School, Francis worked first at Standard Battery and later at Modern Silk Mill. After graduation he went on to work at Mack Printing Company and Laros Printing Company, respectively. He began his career with Bethlehem Steel in 1951 until he was drafted to serve in the United States Army. From 1952-1954 he served in 101st Airborne with some service time overseas in Germany. Following his military service, he returned to the Steel, and later retired after nearly 41 years.Jeep married the girl next door in the summer of 1950. They raised two children and found the fruit of their love only grew as they shared in the lives of their grandchildren. He anticipated the weeks of summer when he would host his grandchildren for their individual mini vacations, packed with adventure and spoiling. He spent many spring seasons cultivating seedlings in the basement of his home to later transplant and tend to in his summer gardens. A humorous storyteller, Jeep would keep his family and friends laughing as he reminisced of childhood games and shenanigans. Keeping to his Hungarian roots, he enjoyed treating himself to a meal of pigs feet time and again. A lover of animals and master to three german shepherds over the years, he enjoyed sharing his table scraps with mans best friend.

He will be lovingly remembered by his bride of 67 years, June; son, Richard Holzer and his fianc, Donna;granddaughter, Stefanie (Schartel) Allen; grandson, Kevin Schartel; and a growing number of great-grandchildren, brother Joseph Holzer and his wife Marge. His daughter, Susan, preceded him in death in 2013.
