Francis Szabo

Francis Szabo, 90, formerly of Freemansburg and a resident of Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Fountain Hill died Friday, August 10, 2012. He was born October 11, 1921; son of the late Vendal and Julianna (Kovacs) Szabo. Francis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Mary (Kerchner) Szabo.

After graduating from Bethlehem High School (Liberty) in 1939 he proudly served in the US Army during World War II. In 1981, Francis retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a foreman in the Foundry after 42 years of service. He was a lifetime social member of the Freemansburg Volunteer Fire Co.; Heights ICC in Bethlehem Twp. and the Roosevelt Democratic Assoc. in Bethlehem Twp.

Francis will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Rosemarie, wife of John Carr of Trexlertown; Kathleen, wife of George Hess of Freemansburg; son, Francis J. Szabo husband of Jean (Moyer) of Allentown; grandchildren, Deb Crowell, David husband of Carol Traupman Carr, Jennifer wife of Anthony "TJ" Krotzer and Nicole wife of Vince Kline as well as eight great grandchildren, Dylan Crowell, Andrew and Allison Carr, Zachary Hess, Nathaniel Krotzer, Olivia Schmeltzer, Anthony and Tylar Kline and many nieces and nephews. Francis was predeceased by his siblings, John, Mary, Julia, Michael, Elizabeth and Helen.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 from 6-9 PM at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 and again on Tuesday from 9-10 AM with a service to follow at 10 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow with full military honors at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem..
