Gavin Chaundy Barr,

Dr. Gavin Chaundy Barr, Sr., MD, 88, formerly of Saucon Valley and most recently of Bedford, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

He was born October 21, 1933, at Allentown Hospital in Allentown, PA. He was the son of the late William Bryce Barr, MD, and the late Lucy A. (Chaundy) Barr, RN.

Dr. Barr was a graduate of William Allen High School. He earned triple Bachelor of Science degrees at Lafayette College and earned his MD with honors from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He served as chief resident at St. Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem, then held the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Barr served on the Medical Center Board of Trustees at the Muhlenberg Medical Center. He also served as Medical Director of Muhlenberg Hospital Center. He practiced internal medicine with Muhlenberg Primary Care at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) - encompassing well over 50 years of practice where he played a key role in transitioning the Muhlenberg campus and its medical staff to LVHN. He is considered by his colleagues as the founder of today's Lehigh Valley Physicians Group (LVPG) Internal Medicine - Muhlenberg.

Dr. Barr was married June 21, 1958, to the late Susan (McAdoo) Barr. They were married for 55 years. Dr. and Mrs. Barr were avid supporters of the arts, especially SOTA and various historical preservation societies, especially The Sun Inn Preservation. They were long-standing members of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem as well as Saucon Valley Country Club.

Dr. Barr is survived by his sisters, Lucy (Fowler) and Carol (Brown) and their families. He is predeceased by his brother William B. Barr, MD. Dr. Barr is also survived by four children, Susan Barr Lee (Stewart), Jessie B. Paul (Andrew), Dr. Gavin C. Barr, Jr. (Maria), Bryce C. Barr, and his fifteen grandchildren, Jack, Meaghan (Thomas), Andrew, William (Megan and great-grandson Hudson), Kathleen, Joseph, Susan, Gavin, Nolan, Grace, Augustine, Bryce (Emily), Theodore, William, and Elizabeth.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018.

A memorial service for relatives and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017.
