George K. "Buck" Wysong Jr., 87, of Bethlehem, PA and formerly of Miami, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Born in Charles Town, WV on January 13, 1926, he was the son of the late George Kearsley, Sr. and Judith Ball Thomas Wysong. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marianne Dozer Wysong.
George was employed by Eastern Airlines for 32 years. He began his career with Eastern as a flight attendant, where he met Marianne who was an EAL flight attendant. He retired in 85' as the Manage r of the Marketing Training School. During those years he also wrote and narrated training manuals, flight safety information cards, and advertising promotions for Eastern which earned him the unofficial title "The Voice of Eastern Airlines." One of his renowned scripts included that of EAL's "If you had wings" attraction at Walt Disney World.
He received his education from West Virginia University and American University where he studied Journalism and Business Administration. He proudly served his country with the Army Air Corps as a Sergeant during World War II. He flew 13 combat missions over Japan as a B-29 tail gunner and honorably completed his service as a Military Policeman; he received the Air Medal with two CLC's, the American Theatre Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. After the war, he earned his private pilot license. He was a member of the Hellertown American Legion and of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Bethlehem. He was also a volunteer at Trinity Soup Kitchen for many years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marianne of Bethlehem; daughters, Patricia Wysong of Bethlehem; Judith Wysong of Stanardsville, VA; and Elizabeth Wysong of Atlanta, GA; son, George, III and his wife, Brenda of Miami Shores, FL; grandchildren, Cassandra and Alexandra Wysong and Julianne Smith-Wysong, his brother, William Wysong, his sister, Frances Keyser, many nieces and nephews and his adoring dog, Dorian. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lily Cain, Elizabeth Wysong and Judith Cofer.
George's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Lehigh Valley Hospital at Muhlenberg's 5 TM staff and physicians for their professional and extremely compassionate care of George and his family during his final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 E. Market St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m .in the church. Interment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Wounded Warriors Project.
