Harry D. Girou

January 15, 1926 — September 13, 2018

Harry D. Girou, 92, of Hellertown, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 with his adoring family by his side. He was born January 15, 1926 in Old Forge, NY; he was raised from birth by his grandmother, Margaret Perkins. Harry was the devoted husband of 73 remarkable years to his wife; Elizabeth May (Holmes) Girou. The two were inseparable and their inspiring relationship has been a wonderful example of true love.



Harry proudly served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hornet (CV-12) as an airplane mechanic. He had a vast knowledge of engines which served him well as owner of Eastern Rental and Equipment Company. He was a member of East Hills Moravian Church, Bethlehem. Harry, also known to those important to him as Pop, will be fondly remembered for his wonderful smile, his fierce independence, generous personality, his kindness and loving spirit. He enjoyed being outside, especially working in his yard and gardens. He had great affection for his children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends.

Harry will be dearly missed by his wife Betty; children, Robert David Girou and wife, Rita of Florida; Bill Giroux of Florida; Donna Kromer and Walter Sickels of Hellertown; and Dottie Fornaro and husband, Dave of Bethlehem; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Perkins; mother, Ella Schafer; brothers, Clayton, Walter, and Wilson Girou.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 5:30-8 p.m. and again on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday at East Hills Moravian Church, 1830 Butztown Rd, Bethlehem, PA 18017. Luncheon will follow in the Family Center at church. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Please meet at the entrance to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lukes Hospice House c/o Development, 240 Union Station Plaza, Bethlehem, PA 18015 and/or Judith Adele Agentis Charitable Foundation, P.O. Box 22075, Lehigh Valley, PA 18002.
