Harry J. Ardoline, 85, of Bethlehem and Longboat Key, FL, passed away in his sleep at home on June 28th, 2018.
Harry was the devoted husband of Ann "Nancy" Judge Ardoline for 65 years, and the loving, protective, and spectacular father of daughters Kathleen Ardoline and Mary Ann Ardoline.
Born in Pittston, PA, Harry was a son of the late Philomena "Mamie" Petroziello Ardoline and Harry Ardoline. He was a proud graduate of Pittston High School, Class of 1950, where he was voted Most Popular Senior Boy.
For 25 years, Harry was Director of Purchasing and Production at Rodale Press, Inc. Prior to his affiliation with Rodale, Harry was Treasurer and Partner at Lehigh Litho. Inc., and began his career in the Advertising Department of Vanity Fair Corporation.
Harry had a long history of dedication to his community, which included serving as Chairman of the Redevelopment Authority of Bethlehem, and a Zoning Board member. He was Charter Member and Past President of Kiwanis Club, Suburban Bethlehem; a member of Bethlehem Jaycee's and the Bethlehem Civil Air Patrol; and an Officer and Board member of Lehigh Valley Club of Printing House Craftsmen. In addition, he was an advisor and volunteer for local political campaigns and a member of St. Anne's RC Church.
Since 1961, Harry had been actively involved with Full Circle, a social action program focused primarily in East Harlem, NYC, where he started as a printing and design consultant. He had a particularly passionate commitment to FOX HOUSE, a residential shelter for homeless women and their children, which was established on East 117th Street in NYC in honor of Harry's dear friend and nationally-recognized street priest, Monsignor Robert J. Fox.
Harry was an accomplished man, both professionally and personally, who unabashedly loved his family. He was strong, intelligent, whimsical, funny, and wildly generous. He was most entertaining and quick to share a story, such as when he was fifteen and had the opportunity to travel to NYC with his brother's baseball team to spend several days with the 1948 Yankees. Harry went to church with Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto, and drove around Manhattan in Joe DiMaggio's brand new, white Cadillac convertible with the Yankees' first-baseman at the wheel. Mr. DiMaggio, it seems, was unaware of the joy-ride.
Harry greatly enjoyed music and theatre, and was a mega-fan of Johnny Mathis for 7
decades. He shared his passion for music with his daughters, and many, many concert tickets!
A perfect day for Harry was sitting on his Longboat Key veranda with Ann, reading, listening to Johnny, and watching the dolphins swim by.
While his "Harry" jokes are legendary in the family, it is his generosity that truly was remarkable. He provided opportunities for education, travel, and entertainment, and was a thoughtful and sensitive soul who practiced behind-the-scenes, often stealth acts of kindness. He would write lovely or funny letters to those who needed encouragement or a laugh. Many of us would appreciate one of those letters now.
Harry leaves behind his wife, Ann Judge Ardoline; daughter Mary Ann Ardoline and husband Greg Kuritz; daughter Kathleen Ardoline and Robin Charles Metzler, all of Bethlehem.
Siblings: Joseph "Shag" Ardoline and Kate; GraceAnn Colarusso and Joe; and Lucille DeGraba. Special grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great-grandchildren, and treasured friends.
Pre-deceased by his sister, Florence Kane.
Harry J. Ardoline will be remembered with love, admiration, and tremendous gratitude for the generosity and kindness he extended to so many. If you would like to remember Harry with a charitable gift in lieu of flowers, please consider: FOX HOUSE 111 East 117th Street
