Helen A. (Sawchuk) Johnson, 85, of Bethlehem, died Monday, December 29, 2014, in St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by family. Born January 28, 1929, in Plymouth, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Marut) Sawchuk. Helen was a loving Mother/Gramma and her family brought her great pleasure. She loved her little dog, Chico, who was her close companion and friend. She loved shopping, decorating her home, gardening, sewing, using her iPad for games and messages, and solving her daily crossword and cryptoquote. She brought joy to everyone who knew her and touched many lives with her kindness, from her baked goods each week for the post man and sanitation engineers to the little gifts for staff employees at her doctors' offices. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Helen was a 1947 graduate of Liberty High School. She was a self-employed beautician in Bethlehem Township for over 40 years until she retired in 1989. She was an energetic polka dancer and lover of polka and accordion music.

Daughters, Carol Landis-Piece and husband Tom, Rosanne Totzke, and Donna Syp and husband Doug, Darlene "Cookie" Bolig and husband John; sons, Edward "Buddy" Gontzar , Michael Gontzar and wife Linda, Edward "Corkey" Johnson and wife Ricki; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and her BFF, Chico. She also treasured her life-long friendship with Ernest Seech and his extended family in West Virginia. She was predeceased by husbands Edward E. Johnson and Edward A. Gontzar, son, William "Billy" Gontzar, and brothers, Joseph "Chuck" and Walter Sawchuk.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 from 8:30-10:30AM immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 First St. Bethlehem, PA 18020. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bethlehem Township and in lieu of flowers; she requested that contributions be made to the church.
