Helen A. Kovach

April 4, 1941 — March 17, 2009

Helen A. Kovach, 67, of Bethlehem, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at her residence.

She was born in Allentown, the daughter of the late James and Irene Pfeiffer Lakics.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Theodore "Teddy" Kovach of Bethlehem.

She worked for the First National Bank of Allentown, Western Electric and later at the Western Union Distribution Center.

Helen is survived by her husband, Teddy; her daughter Connie wife of John Boyko of Hellertown and her son Theodore husband of Chia-Feng of Whitehall as well as five grandchildren, Theodore, Jessie, John, Eric and Audrey. She is also survived by her sister Irene wife of Roger Gordon of Nazareth.

Helen was an organist at the former Our Lady of Pompeii of the Most Holy Rosary, Carmelite Monastery and Holy Ghost Church. She made chord rosaries which she sent to the troops serving in the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm. Helen was a 3rd Order Carmelite ordained St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Riegelsville.

She was a member of the St. Anne's Shrine in Bethlehem. She was also an associate of the Order of Divine Charity at the sister's retirement home in Allamuchy, NJ. Helen also volunteered her time for the Blue Army in NJ; Meals on Wheels and the Carmelite Monastery.

Helen was a member of the Holy Ghost Seniors and Noodle club of the former St. John Capistrano. She enjoyed crafts and was involved with the Muhlenberg Summer Festival and former Christmas City Fair for many years. Helen enjoyed traveling and visited 40 states and six countries. She would organize trips to Canada's Fatima Shrine and Niagara Falls as well as Missouri.

She was a big fan of Mother Angelica in Birmingham and Hancville, AL; Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, TN. Helen made baked goods and homemade noodles for the sisters. Because of her generosity and kindness, Helen and her husband received a special invitation for the new Our Lady of Angels Monastery in Hanceville, AL.

The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Subhash Proothi and associates, St. Luke's Hospice and Dr. Matthew Bartelt.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 7-9 PM at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem. On Monday, March 23, 2009 a viewing will be held at University Parish of Holy Ghost from 9-10 AM immediately followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the church.

Entombment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
