Helen Barbarics

February 16, 1922 — July 10, 2017

Helen G. Barbarics, 95 of Bethlehem died on July 10, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice. She was born February 16, 1922 in Hellertown, PA. Daughter of the late Lawrence Gubish & Magdalena Lazar Gubish, she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, in 1984.

In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, she worked for the Bethlehem Steel. In 1944 she moved to Vallejo, California and worked for the Navy. Upon returning home after the war, she worked for Hellertown Manufacturing until her retirement. After retirement, she worked part time at Rich Mar Florist and Muhlenberg Hospital. Her hobbies included cake baking and decorating, gardening and caregiving. She served St. Mark's Lutheran Church for 22 years as altar coordinator as well as serving on church council and the music and worship committee. As a leading member of the Poor Clares, she worked for 2 years handsewing the paraments (linens for the altar) for the Pentecost season.

Survivors: Son, Ernest & wife Julie of Bethlehem; Daughter, Patricia Gergar & husband Richard of Emmaus; Grandchildren: Mark of Bethlehem, Kristen of San Francisco, Victoria of Emmaus and Alexandra of Allentown; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Annie, Mary, Grace, Irma and Agnes and by brothers: Lawrence, Peter, Joseph, Edward and William.

Viewing hours will be held on Thursday, July 13 at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday at St. Marks Lutheran Church, from 10 to 11 a.m. An 11 a.m. service will follow in the church. Burial will be at Nisky Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem.
