Helen Mihalski was born on May 19, 1911 in Staten Island, NY to Adam and Violet Mihalski. On May 4, 2007, she passed away peacefully in her residence at Kirkland Village at the age of 95. She grew up on Staten Island, the oldest of five children. Helen graduated in 1928 from Curtis High School, where she was on the tap dance and punch ball teams. She graduated in 1931 from Maxwell Training School for Teachers and went on to teach second and third grade on Staten Island and on Long Island, NY. She retired in 1973 from Farmingdale Elementary School after a 33 year career. She lived in Wantagh, New York for 62 years before relocating to Bethlehem, PA in 2002.
Slight of build but indomitable in spirit, Helen enjoyed playing bridge, walking, knitting, and reading. She and her sister Ad were amateur golfers and avid travelers, visiting Europe, Greece, Turkey, Mexico and the American West. Helen was a devoted aunt who enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephew and their extended family.
Helen is survived by two nieces, Barbara Eckert of Annandale, VA and Claire Mihalski of Danville, VA and one nephew, Philip Mihalski of Seattle, WA. She is survived by three grandnieces, Elizabeth and Lindsay Eckert and Alexandra Mihalski.
Helen was predeceased by her sister, Adelaide, of Long Island, NY and her brother, Edmund, of Hellerton, PA.
Services: A viewing will be held Tuesday May 8th, 2007 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Chruch 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA from 9-10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Oceanview Cemetery, Staten Island, New York. Arrangements Connell Funeral Home, Inc. Bethlehem, PA.
A recption will be held Monday, May 7th, 2007 from 5-6:30 PM in the Auditorium at Kirkland Village One Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem, in Helen?s name.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 212 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018.
