Helen Elinor Becker, 87, of Bethlehem, died Monday, December 26, 2016 at Saucon Valley Manor. She was the loving wife of Edward P. Becker. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on October 9, 2016. A devoted wife and Mother, she will be sorely missed.

She was a graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1947. A 1950 St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing graduate, she received her R.N. and did post graduate work in Anesthesia, becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist ( C.R.N.A.) She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Cedar Crest College in 1975. A member of the Bethlehem Garden Club, she served as president from 1993 to 1995. During her tenure, the Bethlehem Garden Club received the prestigious Governors Trophy as the most outstanding club in the state. She was an avid flower designer, winning many blue ribbons and competed in various flower shows. Helen received the highest award, the Sweepstake Award in Design, for her entry in the 1991 Bethlehem Garden Club “Grass Roots” flower show, as well as being named Co-Designer of the Year. She also won the Mary Schaffer Award for Design in 1991. As former president of the Bethlehem Branch, American Association of University Women (1986-1988), Helen was named the branchs “Outstanding Woman of the Year” in 1990. During her presidency, a series of lectures on womans problems and concerns were promoted and a policy of providing scholarships to women returning to college for baccalaureate degrees was initiated. She was a former president of Childrens Theatre of the Lehigh Valley from 1966-1967 and a member of the Lehigh University Womens Club. Active with various volunteer and community groups, she was General Co-Chariman of the Boutique at the Rink in 1989. Proceeds from the fundraiser were donated to the Lehigh Valley Unit of the American Cancer Society. As a member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Colesville, she served as a greeter and usher and was a member of its Bible Study Series.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband Edward; daughters, Dr. Stacey J. Kuhns, wife of Dennis R. Kuhns of Exton and Jill A. Creveling, wife of Curtis C. Creveling of Allentown; grandchildren, Zachary, Cathy, Julie and Casey Creveling and Ryan Kuhns and a sister, Mrs. Mary Figlear. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Laura Kuhns and 4 sisters.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike, Bethlehem, PA 18015, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Assumption B.V.M. Church.
