Helen Hassay, 92, of Reading, died on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 24, 1923 in Bethlehem, the daughter of the late, Stephen and Louise (Mascek) Horvath. She was the loving wife of the late Stephen Hassay.
Helen attended Bethlehem schools and later graduated from Bethlehem Business College. She retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corp. after many years of service as a keypunch operator. She was an active member of St. Johns Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church and the church choir. She was also a member of the Junior Wives Club. Helen was a wonderful baker and she and her husband especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Debra K. Leister and husband, Thomas of Reading. Helen was preceded in death by her sisters, Jennie Kranyecz, Mary Skrobak, Erma Leposa and Elsie Kish.
The Connell Funeral Home is honored to assist with arrangements. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 11:00-11:30 a.m. at St. Johns Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church, 617 E. 4th St, Bethlehem, PA 18015 with a service to immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held at Fountain Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 617 A Main St. Hellertown, PA 18055.
