Hugh E. McShane, 80, of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday July 20, 2011. Born in Bethlehem on August 6, 1930, he was the son of the late Hugh and Helen Powell McShane. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene Trajber McShane.
Hugh was a retired Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He worked for several State Stores in the Lehigh Valley, retiring after 16 years; and became an Ordained Deacon of the Allentown Diocese in 1982. He was member of Sacred Heart Parish of Miller Heights, the Holy Name Society, and of the Fleet Reserve.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene of Bethlehem; sons, Joseph Patrick McShane and wife Toni of Northampton and Michael Hugh McShane and wife Holly of Hellertown; daughter, Susan Rodriquez and husband John "Chico" of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Aileen Umholtz and husband Ryan, Alicia Rodriguez, Matthew Rodriguez, and Colin McShane all of Bethlehem, Patrick and Andrew McShane, and Giovanna DeMatteo all of Northampton; great grandson, Gavin Umholtz; brother, James McShane of Bethlehem; sisters, Helen Manderbach and husband Richard and Isabel Mock all of Oley.
A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday July 25th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 1st Street, Bethlehem, 18020. Viewing hours will be held on Sunday July 24th from 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, and again on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Interment will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish of Miller Heights.
