Hugh Joseph Devers

Hugh "Joe" J. Devers, Jr., 92, of Bethlehem, died Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Manor Care Health Services II in Bethlehem. Born March 29, 1914 in Mauch Chunk, PA he was the son of the late Hugh J., Sr. and Edith Mulhern Devers. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty"Shaffer Devers, who died in 1984.

Joe worked as a Supervisor of Radar Air Traffic Control at Woodrum International Airport in Roanoke, VA for 38 years, before retiring in 1980. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of St. Anne?s Catholic Church of Bethlehem.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by: daughter, Libby Devers of Bethlehem; sister, Rosemary E. Devers of Bethlehem; sister-in-law, Mary Kaufman of Bethlehem; grandsons, John H. York, Jr. of Wilkes-Barre, PA and Chad C. York of Bethlehem. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

All arrangements are being handled by Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday April 12th from 10 to 11 a.m. in the St. Anne?s Catholic Church, 450 Washington Avenue; Bethlehem, PA 18017. An 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Interment will take place at a later date in Roanoke, VA.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Cancer Society 3893 Adler Place Bethlehem, PA 18017, and to the St. Anne?s Catholic Church.
