Irene A. Petko

June 30, 1922 — May 19, 2015

Irene A. Petko, 92, of Bethlehem, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Holy Family Manor. Born in Bethlehem on June 30, 1922, she was a life-long resident of this community. She was eldest child and only daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Simo) Anderko. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph “Pat” P. Petko who passed away in March 1998. Irene worked at the Bethlehem Steel as a clerk in the Accounting Dept. for 35 years and was fortunate enough to enjoy full retirement along with her husband, Joe, at only 55 years of age. They were blessed with 50 years of marriage and many wonderful memories of all the places that they had traveled together, especially in retirement. Irene often mentioned that her favorite vacation spot was Bermuda. She was a lifetime member of the former Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and of the National Sokols.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Denise Villescaz (Joe) of New Braunfels, Texas, Karen Bazar (Brent) of San Antonio, TX, and Deborah Berkner (David) of New York City, NY. In addition, her nephew, Gary Anderko of Tamarac, FL and sister-in-law, Dorothea “Penny” Anderko of Georgetown, TX survive her along with great nieces, great nephews, and her very close special friend, Mary Valianatos. Following the passing of her two brothers, Joseph and Bernard “Bernie” Anderko, Irene became a true example of someone who just wouldnt give up no matter what the challenge. She led the charge with a great attitude and was never happier than when “her” Phillies won the World Series.
