Irene E. Horvath

Irene Elizabeth (Stofanak) Horvath, 89, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. She was the wife of the late John P. Horvath, who died in 2015 and was born in Bethlehem, PA on November 14, 1932, daughter of Stephen and Mary (Hendrichovsky) Stofanak.

Irene graduated from Liberty High School and worked for the Bethlehem Steel as an Executive Secretary in the sales department. Shortly after marrying John, she joined him in operating their business, Laufer's Hardware, handling accounts payable/receivable along with other duties. She attended Northampton Community College and studied Criminal Justice.

Irene was active with her community, participating in musical and theatrical productions, as well as volunteering with local political campaigns. Also, a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and the Tatra Slovak Music Group for over 30 years, singing at the Musikfest Polka Mass. An active member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, she sang in the Resurrection Choir and was a lector.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Nancy, wife of Paul Coulter of Lake Forest, CA, Diane Horvath of Bethlehem and Mary Ann, wife of Greg Baunach of Allentown; son, John Horvath, Jr. of Lansford, PA; son in law, Michael Strain; grandchildren, Elizabeth, wife of Brandon Cogley, Christopher Coulter, Sarah Strain, Gregory Baunach and Cameron Coulter and great-grandson, Lincoln Cogley and another great-grandson on the way. In addition, she is survived by sisters, Mary Rzucidlo and Dorothy Orbin and brothers, Stephen and William Stofanak.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 Another viewing will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 9-10:15 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church or to the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem, 1430 Fritz Dr. Bethlehem, PA 18017.
