Jacqueline M. Fetsko

Jacqueline M. Fetsko, 92, lifelong resident of Bethlehem. She is the daughter of the late Alexander R. and Susanna (Yosko) Fetsko.

Ms. Fetsko has been associated with the National Printing Ink Research Institute at Lehigh University for 55 years retiring in 2004. A 1946 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she earned her MS in chemistry from Lehigh University in 1953. Thereafter she progressed rapidly to supervisor of printing research, assistant research director, and director of technical services, a position she held since 1974.

Miss Fetsko has 46 publications, of which eight on ink transfer and print quality are in The Technical Association of the Graphic Arts Proceedings. She is the first woman to present a TAGA paper in 1954. She is co-author of the Walker-Fetsko Ink Transfer Equation.

In 1960 she lectured at every then-existing printing research institute throughout Europe.

She was responsible for the interior layout and proposals which helped raise over a million dollars toward the construction of the Francis MacDonald Sinclair Memorial Laboratory, home of NIPRI at Lehigh since 1970.

In 1970 she assumed charge of the Introductory Short Course in Printing Ink Technology at Lehigh, became chairman of the ASTM Subcommittee on Printing Inks in 1983 and has shepherded 13 standards through the organization.

Ms. Fetsko has received numerous honors including the TAGA Honors Award in 1998 for her 49 years of dedicated service to NPIRI and the printing industry, The Printing Ink Pioneer Award of NAPIM in 1971, the Naomi Berber Award of GATF in 1977, the Master Ink Technologist Award of the NY Printing Ink Production Club in 1981, and the Henry Gardner Award of ASTM in 1992.

Ms. Fetsko was a devoted member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of the Byzantine Rite in Bethlehem where she was instrumental in instituting the parish library and volunteered with the pierogi Ladies.

In the 1950s and 60s she was an avid duplicate bridge player and became a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League in 1955. She was a 6-time Player of the Year in the Lehigh Valley Bridge Association and was a founding editor of the news bulletin, “Looking Down the Valley”.

During the 1970s and 80s she became an avid gardener, growing edible crops on her half-acre plot. Her first garden at her home on Delaware Ave. was noted for its beautiful flowers.

Ms. Fetskos brother, Bernard J. Fetsko died in 1995.

A viewing will be held at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 9:30-10:30 Am, followed by a Funeral Service at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of the Byzantine Rite, 1140 Johnston Dr., Bethlehem, PA 18017at 11:00 Am. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of the Byzantine Rite.
