JAMES BILLY, 90, of Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Allentown formally of Lower Saucon Township, died on Thanksgiving Day in Cedarbrook. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann Billy for whom they were married for 48 years. Born on September 21, 1925 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, James was the son of the late Stephen Billy and Mary (Popp) Billy. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 - 1946 as a Seaman First Class aboard the LST-573. He participated in the Following Philippine Island D-Day invasions: Leyte; Mindoro; Panay; Negros; Lingayen, Luzon; and Subic Bay, Luzon. He also participated in the following Borneo Island D-Day Invasions: Brunei Bay; Weston, Brunei; and Lutong, Sarawak. After WWII he worked at Bethlehem Steel in the Narrow-Gauge Saucon Division group as a brakeman and engineer retiring in 1987 after 39 years. An avid bowler he participated for many years in the AFL-CIO Tri-Local bowling league at the Bethlehem Steel Union Hall. He was a member of the Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Colesville and the Holy Name Society.
Survivors: Sons: Stephen and his wife Sandi of Virginia Beach, VA., James and his wife Mary of Harleysville, PA., Joseph and his wife Mimi of Lower Saucon Township, PA., Daniel and his wife Janet of Stratford, NJ., Christopher and his wife Jamie of Lower Saucon Township, Pa., and six grandchildren John Billy and Ryan Billy of Virginia Beach, VA., Rebecca Billy and Jason Billy of Stratford, NJ., and Dana Billy and Lauren Billy of Harleysville, PA. He was predeceased by a son Martin, Brothers; Charles Billy, Michael Billy, John Billy, and Sisters Mary Feczik and Helen Wagner.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Dec. 7, at the Assumption B.V.M. Church, 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike, Bethlehem. A viewing will be held in the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
