Janet E. Greenleaf

May 30, 1942 — April 15, 2008

Janet Elizabeth Greenleaf, of Center Valley, PA, passed away April 15, 2008. She was the loving wife of Dr. James Albert Greenleaf for 41 years.

Born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Janet was the daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Rabenold Bohstedt. She graduated from Louis E. Dieruff High School, Bloomsburg and Lehigh Universities.

Janet taught in the Allentown and East Orange School Districts.

She helped to establish the first Lutheran Elementary School in the Lehigh Valley known then as Holy Trinity and Later as Lehigh Valley Lutheran School. Janet served as the first School Board President, taught there for five years and was the principal for eleven years. After retiring as principal she worked as an adjunct professor for Moravian College. She was a previous member of S. Luke's Lutheran Church and currently a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allentown.

Janet served on committees and boards both locally and nationally. She was a member of the Junior League of the Lehigh Valley and served a term as president. She also served a two year term as chairman of the Nominating Committee in Washington, DC, and served on the Board of the Bethlehem Area Public Library for fifteen years, also serving as treasurer for many of those years.

Janet served on the board for the Sayre Child Care Center and the Eastern Pennsylvania Lutheran Camp Corporation. She was elected to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Division for Higher Education and Schools in Chicago and served on the board for campus ministry. In the North East Penn Synod, Janet served as chairperson of the Lutheran Schools and Early Childhood Centers Committee.

Survivors: Husband, son Dr. John Edward of Center Valley and daughter Jean Marie Anderson of Timonium, Maryland. Two grandchildren; Paul and Ella.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 10 AM in St. John's Lutheran Evangelical Church 32 South Fifth St. Allentown, Pa. Rev. Lyn Langkamer and Rev. David Hill will be presiding.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
