Jean Carpenter Bischoff, 103, of Nazareth passed away peacefully at Moravian Hall Square on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
She was born in Pittston, PA, June 12, 1907 to Judson and Euphemia Brown Brink.
She grew up in Emmaus and graduated from Emmaus H.S. in 1924. In 1928, Jean graduated from Temple University with a B.S. in Business Education. She spent most of her life in N.Y. State, having taught at Pearl River, NY High School and the Rockland Community College, Suffern, NY. She also was the manager of the college bookstore.
Jean belonged to and was a past president of the Pearl River branch of the American Association of University Women. She later retired to Florida residing in Leesburg and then Mount Dora. She loved to play bridge, read, and travel, especially cruising. The last one she and husband Lou took was a 3 month cruise around the world.
Jean was predeceased by husbands, Paul Gibbons, Philip Carpenter and Louis Bischoff and her daughter Ann Gibbons. She is survived by her son, Philip Carpenter and his wife, Lynn; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a stepson, Robert Bischoff and his wife Gale; stepdaughter, Elaine Mathews; 7 step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
Jean's family would like to thank the special people that have cared for Jean over the years from St. Luke's Hospital, VNA Hospice of St. Luke's and Moravian Hall Square.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem and will be private at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life memorial service will be scheduled at Moravian Hall Square.
