Jean M. Becker

Jean M. Becker, 94, of Belmont, MA, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022. She was born on December 1, 1928, the eldest daughter of the late John and Grace (Doherty) Harvey. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Eston J. Becker, Jr.

Jean graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School. She worked for more than 6 decades as a legal secretary - much of that at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. - bringing tremendous experience and skill to the job. Through her hard work, she sent her two beloved children to college, bought her own home, and later spoiled her grandchildren with gifts as well as love. She was generous with all. Her Christmases were legendary. She was an active parishioner of Ss. Simon and Jude Church in Bethlehem for more than 80 years, and a devout Catholic her entire life.

Throughout her life, Jean was ever joyful, optimistic, and full of gratitude for all she had. She had a tremendous sweet tooth, was an avid reader, and drank tea at every meal. She maintained an elegant fashion sense well into her later years.

Jean adored her family above all else. She cared for her mother, Grace, until her death. When her husband Eston had to move into a nursing home, Jean visited him daily, if not more frequently. She loved her children deeply, and delighted in being a grandmother, up for any activity with her grandchildren, from endless games of Sorry! and Rummy, to annual trips to Hershey and Dorney Parks.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeannine McGrane; sister, Mary Monaghan; grandchildren, Victoria, Eston IV, Alicia, and Elizabeth; and great-grandchildren Grace and Eleanor. She was preceded in death by her son, Eston Becker III; brother, John Harvey; and son-in-law, James McGrane.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Simon and Jude Church 730 W. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
