Joan E. Mcdevitt

Joan E. McDevitt, 94, of Reading, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth, PA. She was born July 5, 1918 in Reading; daughter of the late Raymond and Pauline (Talarczyk) Kubacki. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. McDevitt.

Earlier, Joan worked for the Berkshire Knitting Mills in Reading and from the mid 1960's to the mid 1980's she worked for Thrift Drug. Joan dedicated her life to her family and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Joanne P. Kelly and her husband, George Kelly of Bethlehem; as well as her grandchildren, Sean Patrick; Joseph McDevitt and his wife, Amy Horvath; Brian Matthew and his wife, Laurie Reviello; Elizabeth Anne and her husband, Kyle Koch and Michael Brendan and her great grandchildren, Caiden John; Abigail Katherine; Beatrice Catherine; Declan Simmons and a baby girl due in October. Joan was predeceased by her sisters, Anna, Hattie, Pearl, Emily and Cecelia and her brothers, Fred, Edwin and Stanley.

She was a member of the Senior Citizen Group and Horizon; she delivered Meals on Wheels; was a fierce bingo player and enjoyed "winning" when playing Rummy.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at St. Catharine of Siena Parish, 4975 Boyertown Pike Reading, PA 19606 from 9:45-10:45 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM. Interment will be held at Gethsemane Cemetery in Reading. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020 and/or to St. Catharine of Siena Parish.
