Joan M. Guranich, 84, of Bethlehem, passed away on July 6, 2023, at the VNA Hospice House of St. Luke's, Lower Saucon Twp. She was the wife of John Guranich. Joan was born on August 7, 1938, in Allentown to the late Joseph and Mary (Tenover) Zelko. She was a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, where she served as Yearbook Editor, and later attended Villanova University. Her passion for education led her to a career as a 3rd Grade Teacher at the former St. Ursula's Catholic School, Fountain Hill. She later transitioned into healthcare, serving as the Manager of Nutrition at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill until her retirement. Joan was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
An active member of the Bethlehem Historic District Association (BHDA) for 50 years, Joan had a deep appreciation for her community's history and culture. Her interests extended beyond her work and community involvement, as she found joy in cooking and traveling. She would travel to visit her husband with her children who was working in Morocco as well to many cities in the United States. Joan was the glue that held the family together.
Survivors: In addition to her husband of 65 years this past July 5th; sons: John T. (Daisey) Guranich of Santa Fe, NM, Gregory M. (Beth) Guranich of Cape Cod, MA, and Paul C. (Georgina) Guranich of Fountain Hill; 7 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter. Predeceased in death by her son Theodore B. Guranich who died last year at age 55.
Service: A prayer service will be held at the convenience of the family. The interment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Online condolences may be offered at connellfuneral.com.
