Joanne Catherine Bastian

Joanne Catherine Bastian, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013 under the excellent and compassionate care of the doctors and nurses at LV Hospital-Muhlenberg ICU, CCU and Rehab depts.

Born in Shamokin, PA on November 20, 1936 to John F. and Mary (Shea) McCall, Joanne was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School, class of 1954, Allentown Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing class of 1957 and Class of 1959 of Sacred Heart School of Anesthesia. She worked in the Anesthesia Depts. of Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville; Quakertown Hospital and had a 30 year career at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ, retiring in 1991.

Joanne enjoyed to travel along the Atlantic Coast from Gaspe', Canada to Key West, FL; Ocean City, MD and NJ and the Atlantic City Casinos.

Joanne spent 39 years advocating for her twin brother, CPO3 John E. McCall, decorated Vietnam veteran in the Medical Corps, USN. Severely disabled, she made certain he was adequately maintained in the DAV system. Jack passed away in the Veterans Hospital on May 22, 2013 in Wilkes-Barre, PA

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George H. Bastian of Hanover Twp., Northampton County; sister-in-law, Lenore Bastian Kelly, wife of Dr. William J. Kelly of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law, Thomas J. Bastian of Philadelphia, PA as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Connell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Friday, July 5, 2013, from 10-10:45 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
