Joel G. Harpel, 66, of Bowmansville, PA; died surrounded by his family, on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Reading Hospital. He was born April 15, 1946 in Bethlehem; the son of Nina (Garland) Harpel and the late Clarence Harpel. Joel is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Dorothy (Stewart) Harpel. He proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD823) during the Vietnam War. Joel was a financial consultant in the banking industry for 40 years. Most recently he was a consultant for the Philadelphia Trust Co.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy; mother, Nina; daughters, Kimberly Ahlgren of Bethlehem; Jessica Nunes of Chandler, AZ and Heather Cuthbert of Reading as well as three grandchildren, Hayley, Brooklyn and Luc. Joel will also be dearly missed by his sister, Gail Gucker of Rochester, NY and brothers, David of Tempe, AZ and Thomas of Bethlehem.
In his free time, Joel enjoyed hunting, quading, golfing and camping. He also loved spending time at his home in Gold Canyon, Arizona. He will be forever remembered for his genuine care for people; his ability to live life to its fullest and for his kind and gentle spirit.
Arrangements have been made with the support of the Connell Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be held 9 am on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Messiah Lutheran Church 2020 Worthington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017.
