John A. Semanick

February 1, 1923 — July 3, 2009

John A. Semanick, 86, of Bethlehem died on Friday, July 3, 2009 at St.Luke's Hospital.

He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late John J. and Anna Ezar Semanick.

John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Veronica E. Semanick of Bethlehem.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Medical Technician in England and France during WWII.

John graduated in 1949 from Moravian College with degrees in Business Administration and Economics.

John worked as a Purchasing Agent for 10 years at Bethlehem Steel Corp. and later retired as a Purchasing Agent from Air Products and Chemical Inc., Trexlertown; where he worked from 1961-1983.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family; wife Veronica; sons, Gregg J. Semanick of Hillsborough, NJ; John J. Semanick of Durham, NC and Ronald Semanick and his wife Nancy of Palmer Twp. as well as six grandchildren, Mark, Kevin, John Jr., Robert, Andrew W., and Matthew O. and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Donchez and Anna Krenicky as well as his brother Joseph Semanick.

He was an active member of SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Bethlehem where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, the seniors group and earlier served as the CYO baseball coach.

John also enjoyed his time as coach and President of Lehigh Little League as well as coaching in the Babe Ruth League.

He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and enjoyed photography and cameras in his free time.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 8, 2009 from 8-9:30AM at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 10AM in SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church 730 W. Broad St. Bethlehem PA 18018.

Entombment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery, 2575 Linden St. Bethlehem PA 18017.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church 730 W. Broad St. Bethlehem PA 18018 and/or the charity of one's choice.
