John Gorcsan

April 11, 1920 — February 16, 2016

John Gorcsan, Jr., 95, of Bethlehem, died on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late John Gorcsan, Sr. and Vilma (Hassai) Gorcsan. He was the devoted husband to Lucy Rose (Carchio) Gorcsan. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past November.

John graduated from Lehigh University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for nearly 43 years, attaining a major leadership role as Assistant Superintendent of Electrical-Mechanical Maintenance, supervising the running of the Saucon Rolling Mills Division and Structural Steel Shipping Yards. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Airforce during WWII. John served on the St. Johns Windish Lutheran Church council for over 20 years, including a term as President. He also served as committeeman and treasurer of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 39 for 15 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy (Carchio) Gorcsan, son, John Gorcsan III, MD (wife Marianne) and daughter, Mary Lou Raiser (husband Barry). He is also survived by five grandchildren: Daniel Raiser (wife Christy), David Raiser, and Marcy Nase (husband Philip), Sarah Gorcsan, Emily Gorcsan, and three great-grandchildren: Jack, Luke, and Samantha Raiser.

Services: February 27, 2016 at St. Johns Windish Luthern Church 617 E 4th St, Bethlehem, PA 18015, with visitation at 10:00am, and service at 11:00am.
