John Joseph Hajdinyak, 88, of Easton, Pa. died February 1, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospice House from complications of pneumonia.
Mr. Hajdinyak was born August 16, 1921, in Bethlehem, Pa. He was the son of the late Stephen and Mary Kozar Hajdinyak. He spent the majority of his 88 years in Bethlehem, moving to Easton in 1989.
Mr. Hajdinyak worked for the Just Born Company for 46 years before retiring in 1985.
Mr. Hajdinyak served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. After basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida, he joined the 83rd Chemical Mortar Battalion and saw action in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He was wounded in battle twice and received two Purple Hearts.
Mr. Hajdinyak was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bethlehem until its closure in 2008.
He is survived by Anna Haas, his loving wife of 67 years, his son, John, and daughter in-law, Karen Bobin, of Randolph, NJ, brother, Stephen Hayden of Emmaus, Pa., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Horvath and Helen Rieger.
