John J. Hippensteal

March 5, 1933 — March 23, 2018

John J. Hippensteal, 85, of Bethlehem, was born into eternal life on March 23, 2018 after being lovingly cared for by his family and St. Lukes Hospice. Jack was a devoted husband, beloved father, and caring grandfather. He will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Jack was born March 5, 1933 in Bethlehem; son of the late Harry Franklin and Anna Margaret (Melcher) Hippensteal. Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Constance (Jura) Hippensteal. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this May.

Jack graduated from Liberty High School, Kutztown University and earned his Masters Degree in Education from Lehigh University. He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Jack taught in the Bethlehem Area School District for 34 years. Upon retiring, Jack worked at the Discovery Center. He was former President of Bethlehem Schoolmens Club, member of Bethlehem Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was a parishioner of Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church where he was a member of the Folk Group. He enjoyed restoring his 1957 Ford Ranchero and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Connie; sons, Mark of Bethlehem; John Jr. and his wife, Kim of Allentown; and Thomas and his wife, Joanne of Spring House; grandchildren, Kaley, wife of Evan Horvath; John; Trey and Maddy; his brother, Richard and his wife, Cynthia of Florida and Robert and his wife, Carolyn of Bethlehem; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris, Anne, Theetta and Nancy; and brothers, Paul and Harry.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 730 W. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
