John J. O'Connell

John J. OConnell, 93, of Bethlehem, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Country Meadows.

Born on February 27, 1928, he was the son of the late Thomas and Katherine (Snyder) OConnell.

A graduate of Easton Catholic High School, John went on to serve in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.

After receiving an honorable discharge for his service, he returned to the Lehigh Valley to hold a thirty-five-year career with Bethlehem Steel, retiring as foreman in the beam yards.

Following retirement, John enjoyed thirty years of travels to Florida, with his wife Nancy, where theyd stay from October through April.

Outside of work, John enjoyed wood crafts, coaching baseball, and serving as a Cub Pack leader for Troop 47. He was active in Knights of Columbusa fourth-degree member in Easton and a third-degree member in Bethlehem. John also held a membership with the Bethlehem American Legion. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish, Miller Heights, Bethlehem.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Gellock and Elizabeth Stangle.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of seventy-one years, Nancy Ann (Musgnung) OConnell; one daughter: Carol Ann Murphy; two sons: John OConnell (Linda) and Patrick OConnell (Diane); seven grandchildren: Eric, Kenneth, and Sebastian Murphy, Lauren Stocker, and Jaqueline OConnell, Ryan, and Nicole OConnell; and eight great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include two half-brothers: Thomas and Daniel OConnell, and one brother-in-law Harry Musgnung (Marilyn).

A visitation will be held at the Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Easton.
