John J. Urban Sr.

John J. Urban Sr., 94, of Bethlehem, died peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017; he was surrounded by his family. Born in Lost Creek, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marguerite (Garganus) Urban. He was the husband of Sarah (Snyder) Urban. They were married 41 years.

John was employed by the Bethlehem Steel then in 1954 went to work for Holy Saviour Cemetery where he retired as superintendent in 1993. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. He was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the North End Wanderers A.A., Grover Cleveland and Jefferson Democratic Club. He was also an avid golfer.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sarah; son, John (Rebecca); daughter, Elaine Urban; brother, William; grandsons, John Paul (Jennifer) and Robert Michael (Tracy); great grandchildren, Abigail, John Gabriel, Clarabella, Evangelina and Caleb; step children, Larry White (Diane), Donna Mitchell, Paulette Moll, Debra Koons and Cathy Wasser; 6 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred (McCole) Urban and 7 siblings.

Viewing hours will be held in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, on Sunday, June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. A 10 a.m. funeral service will follow in the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
