John Jacob Coken, 96, of Bethlehem, PA died Friday, October 26, 2012 at St.Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem. He was married to Elizabeth (McCoach) Coken for 70 years.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. John was the co-owner with his sister, Goldie McCandless of the McCandless Food Store in Bethlehem for 30 years. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Marines during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart at the Battle of Sugarloaf Hill, Okinawa, Japan.
John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, son, John Coken, granddaughters, Leanne Feather and Lynelle Masser, grandson, Scott Bronstein and three great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Bronstein.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, 321 Wyandotte St., Bethlehem, PA 18015 at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John's name to New Bethany House, 339 W. 4th St., Bethlehem, PA 18015
