John L. Kerchner, Sr. 87, of Freemansburg, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Sandra L. (Leibig) Kerchner. John was born in Hazelton, on July 1, 1936 to the late Roland and Helen (Coyle) Kerchner. He was one of 14 children. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force during Peacetime. John worked for the former Bethlehem Steel as a Blast Furnace Operator for 39 years until retiring in 1997. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, trout fishing, clamming at the Indian River in Delaware and playing horseshoes.
Survivors: In addition to his loving wife of 63 years; children: John L. (Jill) Kerchner, Jr. of East Petersburg, Melissa A. Kerchner of Freemansburg, Denise E. (Michael) Hollobow of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren: Heather (Ryan) Emerich, Hilary (Jordan Boothe) Kerchner, Samantha & Nicholas Hollobow; great grandchildren: Kendall & Laurel Emerich, Ethan & Eloise Boothe; four sisters. He was predeceased by 9 siblings.
Services: Friends and family are invited to his viewings from 6-8pm Monday, June 10, 2024 and 10-11am Tuesday, June 11, 2024 both at the Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem followed by a service at 11am. The interment with Military Honors will conclude services at the Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. Online condolences may be offered www.connellfuneral.com
