John Manuel Goncalves

John Goncalves, 86, of Hellertown, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. He was born in Cerdal, Portugal; son of the late Joao Antonio Goncalves and Anna Maria Soares. He was the loving husband to Lorraine (Fernandes) Goncalves. They were married 60 years before her death this January. John was a talented carpenter and worked in construction most of his working life. He retired as a Foreman for Lisbon Contractors after over 30 years of service. John was a parishioner of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Portuguese American Club and enjoyed his monthly casino bus trips with the Young and the Restless group.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Helen Soares of Portugal and Maria Alice Figueiredo of Bethlehem and many nieces and nephews who were dear to him; especially his godchildren, Dave Soares and his wife, Peggy; Susie Repsher and Marques Repsher.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at The Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 1408 Easton Rd., Hellertown, PA 18055 at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery of Hellertown.
