John Morgan

March 1, 1932 — August 9, 2017

John Morgan, 85, of Bethlehem, passed away on Wednesday August 9, 2017 at St. Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. John was born on March 1, 1932 in Wilkes Barre, Pa., son of the late John Morga and Jane Staniscavage. He graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1950 and was a PA All State Football Player. He received an athletic scholarship to play in the Big 10 Football Conference at Indiana University. As a sophomore he started in all 9 games and was touted as one of the top defensive lineman in the Big 10. He was a member of the I Mens Varsity Association at Indiana University. After college, John worked for the Iron Workers Union Local 36 for many years and served as president of the union. He served his country in the US Army.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, John R. Morgan Jr. of E. Allen Twp., daughters, Jane Bedics and companion Ted Martin of Coopersburg, Michele A. Hart and husband William of Northampton, Marlene Morgan, and Marie Nelson both of Bethlehem, brother, Robert Morga of Whitehall, sisters, Jean Garza and husband Richard, Patricia Fritch and Betsy Ann Granitz all of Bethlehem, and grandchildren who John was extremely proud of, Attorney Sean P. Hart of NJ, Attorney Colleen Hart Moran and husband Captain Nicholas Moran of NC, Brittany Morgan and Perry Morgan both of Emmaus.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Lukes Hospice 801 Ostrum St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18015. A special thanks to all the doctors and nurses, especially Nemita, who cared for John during his last days.
