John S. Zamper

John ?Zaz? C. Zamper, 86 , of Bethlehem Township died Monday, November 26, 2007 in his home.

Born November 27, 1920 in Bethlehem he was the son of the late Stephen and Theresa Horvath Zamper. He was married to Stephanie Kunda Zamper who died in June of 1988.

John worked in the Coke Works at the Bethlehem Steel for 40 years. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was the treasurer for the Leisure Club for retired employees of the Bethlehem Steel Coke Works. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bethlehem Township. He was a member of the St. Francis Fraternity of Secular Franciscans. John was very active volunteer who devoted a lot of his time to helping out with the St. Francis Retreat House Friary, Holy Family Manor, St. Luke's Hospital, and Musikfest helping with the handicapped. Through all his volunteer work he was honored by receiving the President?s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes over 4, 000 hours of volunteer work. He was an avid bowler, loved his Philadelphia sports teams, and his ?card? games.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Stephanie and husband Bill Elovski of Coopersberg, brother Charles Zamper of Bethlehem, sister Mary Zamper-Ruyak, and his two grandsons Ryan and Jamie Elovski.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers Joseph ?Curly? Zamper and Stephen Zamper and his sister Helen Rose.

SERVICES

A viewing will be held on Friday November 30, 2007 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1817 First St. Bethlehem, PA 18020.

Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, in Bethlehem, PA

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Friary, 3918 Chipman Rd., Easton, PA 18042.
