John Simoes, 85 of Bethlehem Township died Sunday morning in St. Luke?s Hospital, Bethlehem, Pa.
He and his wife Adelina Guerra Simoes would have celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary on July 3rd.
Born in Falls River, MA he is the son of the late Jose and Maria Almeida Simoes.
He worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 33 years in the Coke Works division before retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bethlehem Township and belonged to the Portuguese American Club and the MORA Club in Bethlehem.
John was a true gentleman with the ability to put a smile on the face of anyone he came into contact with. He sponsored many of the Portuguese men and women that came to America helping them find homes, jobs and a life in America.
He enjoyed his gardening and loved all of his family and the time he was able to spend with them.
Surviving with his wife are his two sons; Tony and his wife Katy and George and his wife Debbie all of Bethlehem Township. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Karen Miklus and her husband Tim of Stafford, VA,; David, Ryan, Kristen and Jen Simoes all of Bethlehem, his two great granddaughters, Maddie and Sophie Miklus.
He is also survived by his two brothers Jose Simoes of Bethlehem and Americo of Portugal, and his three sisters; Isabel Cerqueira, Ines Abrantes both of Bethlehem and Lucia Sousa of Jupiter, Fla.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Connell Funeral Home 245 East Broad Street Bethlehem and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church 1st St. Bethlehem, Pa.
Visitation will be held on Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
